What is Neighbor?

Neighbor is an online marketplace for peer-to-peer self storage, enabling people to turn extra space into cash. Think of it as the AirBnB of storage. It’s one of my top passive income ideas and an excellent way to make money fast.

New hosts will get a $50 bonus in the form of an Amazon gift card when they rent out their space for the first time. Simply sign up as host with this referral link.

Are you concerned about being responsible for someone else’s stuff? You don’t have to worry. As a Neighbor host, you’re covered under an automatic general liability protection of up to $1 million dollars – at no additional cost.

And it’s not just for people with space to rent. If you need more storage space, Neighbor might be the answer for you too. Plus, use one of the 50% off coupons in this post and try it out for cheap!

My Neighbor Experience as a Host

We’re still trying to organize the new house so I’m not quite ready to rent off a room just quite yet. But I do plan to make money by hosting the attic and will report back on what it’s like.

Some people may be thinking, “But I don’t have any space leftover to rent…”.

And while it might feel that way, you’d be surprised on all the areas you can be a host with.

Indoor Spaces:

  • Garage
  • Basement
  • Attic
  • Bedroom
  • Closet
  • Shed
  • Warehouse
  • Business Building
  • Retail
  • Shipping Container

Outdoor Spaces:

  • Driveway
  • Street
  • Side Yard
  • Back Yard
  • Unpaved Lot
  • Paved Lot
  • Parking Lot
  • Car Port

New hosts can be a little apprehensive since it’s a new concept for them. Fortunately, Neighbor gives you full control and great protection should things not go 100% smooth:

  • Control – You control when and who rents your space
  • Coverage – $1M free coverage
  • Support – Responsive customer service
  • No Paperwork – Everything done on the Neighbor app and/or website
  • Payments – All payments automated on Neighbor; the company will even cover costs when renters default on payments
  • Safe – Neighbor screen all users and confirm they are real people

On top of this, being a host is low effort – all you need to do is list your space (and maybe clean your space).

Hosting gives you the chance to help neighbors too. People on your street need storage, and you’re providing a cheaper and closer alternative for them compared to traditional storage units.

My Neighbor Experience as a Renter

I found the customer experience to be great. It was easy to navigate around on Neighbor’s mobile app and the website itself is very user-friendly.

I was looking for a place to store all my boxes from the recent move and found a TON of indoor space available.

For example, I found this listing from a local neighbor that offered a 5×10 garage for only $31.50 after applying the 50% coupon! That’s way less than what traditional storage units would charge.

The Bottom Line

Neighbor is a legit website that has been around since 2017. It has helped a bunch of people make money renting their available space or others who need extra room to store their stuff.
