About CIT Bank
CIT Bank is a division of First Citizens Bank, a publicly-traded bank (NASDAQ: FCNCA) founded in 1898 and has over $220 billion in total assets and holds $151 billion in total deposits, making it a Top 20 bank by assets.
This is an FDIC-insured bank, so your deposits are protected up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, and per ownership category. This means that if you have multiple accounts at the same bank, you are insured for more than $250,000 if your funds are in different ownership categories.
The Bottom Line
Wow! What a great offer for savers. High-yield savings accounts aren’t that lucrative for banks since the yield is so high, so it’s surprising to see a bank offer an additional APY boost on top of their already competitive rate.
CIT Bank isn’t a fly-by-night company either. Its parent company, First Citizens Bank, is a US top 20 consumer bank. They have over 100 years of operational experience, so there’s added peace of mind compared to smaller banks.
While all FDIC-insured banks protect your money up to the stated maximum limits, you really don’t want the hassle of sorting through that process should it happen (I know I don’t). Given their size and assets under management, stability and security are two of CIT Bank’s best features.
The one caveat of the CIT Bank Platinum Savings account is that to get the full 4.10% APY (3.75% APY base + 0.35% APY boost), you need to have a balance of at least $5,000, otherwise, you earn 0.60% APY (0.25% APY base + 0.35% APY boost) instead.
First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company. Member FDIC.

Unfortunately, you (me!) can only do this bonus once. From their terms and conditions: Customers who previously participated in the PS2025 promotion and received the associated bonus are not eligible to participate in the PS2025 promotion again. Rats!
A “no-brainer” indeed! Open with $5K to get the 4.3% APY, deposit $25K on about the 28th day, and withdraw $25K on the 32nd day to get the $225 bonus. Easy as pie!
