Capital One Venture X Business Card Overview
Capital One launched the Venture X Business card on September 12, 2023. This is the business version of the popular consumer Venture X credit card and is available to all eligible business owners. The Venture X Business card earns an unlimited 2x miles on every purchase. Plus, book through Capital One Travel to earns 5x on flights and 10x on hotels and rental cars.
In this post, I’ll go over the benefits of the card, its pros and cons, the sign-up offer, an example of how I maximized the use of the bonus miles, and whether or not the Venture X Business is worth its annual fee.
Benefits of Business Venture X
- Anniversary Bonus: Get 10,000 bonus miles every year on your account anniversary (worth $100 towards travel).
- Annual Credit: Get a $300 annual credit for travel bookings made through Capital One Travel.
- Lounge Access: Free access to over 1,200+ Priority Pass lounges and Capital One lounges for cardholders and up to two guests per visit.
- Rental Car Elite Status: Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status for primary cardholders and authorized users (normally requires 15 rentals or $3,000 in spend).

- Return Protection: Get up to $300 per item and $1,000 per account when a merchant refuses a return.

One key difference between the Venture X Business card and its personal counterpart is that the business version is a pay-in-full card that doesn’t come with a preset credit limit or charge interest on purchases. Instead, you need to pay your statement balance in full each month or be subject to a late fee.
This places the Venture X Business card in line with its main competitors, like The Business Platinum® Card from American Express.

Who Can Apply For a Business Card?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions I receive when it comes to business card bonuses or business checking account bonuses. Surprisingly, applying for a business card or bank account is much easier than you may think.
Some people think you need to own a registered business to apply for a business card, but that’s simply not true. You can get approved for a small business credit card with a part-time side hustle.
So if you’re a freelancer, or someone who works in the gig economy (e.g. Uber driver, Instacart shopper, Rover pet sitter), or even just sell items online (e.g. eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy), then you have a business.
Ask yourself if you’re trying to make a profit from what you’re doing. That’s the key question. If the answer is yes, then you’re considered a small business owner and that makes it possible for you to apply for a business credit card.
Is Venture X Business Worth The Annual Fee?
It’s 100% worth the $395 annual fee. Let’s assume you can meet the $30,000 spending requirement for the welcome bonus. That means you’re getting:
- 210,000 miles [150,000 bonus miles + a minimum of 60,000 miles from spend] = worth at least $2,100 in travel
- $300 in annual travel credits = worth $300
- 10,000 anniversary bonus miles (starting on your first anniversary) = worth at least $100 in travel
That’s a total of $2,500 of dollar-for-dollar benefits, resulting in a net positive difference of $2,105 when taking the annual fee into account!
Keep in mind this calculation is done before considering all the other substantial benefits and perks this card has to offer.
Venture X Business: Pros & Cons
Pro: Excellent Welcome Bonus
A welcome bonus of 150,000 miles is fantastic. The size of the bonus is not unheard of, but it’s still very rare when compared to all other credit card sign-up bonuses available.
Pro: Great Point Earning Structure
The Venture X Business card earns an unlimited 2x miles on all purchases, which is identical to the personal version. This uncapped earnings structure across all spending categories means you don’t have to figure out many miles you earn for each purchase.
Most importantly, Capital One offers excellent options for redeeming your hard-earned miles, unlike some credit cards where earning rewards might be straightforward, but redeeming them can be a challenge.
For example, you can redeem 150,000 miles for $1,500 worth of travel purchases made through the Capital One Travel portal, including flights, hotels, rental cards, and parking. This is what I consider the baseline value of miles.
Though it’s often more lucrative to transfer the miles to airline and hotel partners. For instance, you can fly American Airlines Flagship First from the United States to London for just 50,000 miles. The same flight booked for cash costs $5,750 – representing a value of 11.5¢ per mile!
Personally, my wife and I each transferred 70,000 miles to British Airways to fly business class from Boston to Doha on Qatar Airways. Flying on top of a bed for 12 hours ain’t too shabby!
Capital One miles transfer 1:1 to the following airline partner programs:
- Aeromexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France KLM Flying Blue
- Avianca LifeMiles
- British Airways Executive Club
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- Emirates Skywards
- Etihad Guest
- Finnair Plus
- Singapore Airlines Krisflyer
- Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
- TAP Air Portugal Miles&Go
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- Virgin Red
You can also transfer them to the following hotel partner programs:
- Choice Privileges
- Wyndham Rewards
You can also redeem the miles for cashback, convert them to gift cards, and use them to shop at Amazon. But doing so drops the value down to between 0.5¢ – 0.8¢ per mile. You should avoid these redemption options due to the poor value it provides.
Pro: Annual Credits & Anniversary Bonuses
While there are numerous reasons to keep this card – two big ones are the annual travel credit and the anniversary bonus miles.
You’ll get a $300 credit every year for bookings made through Capital One Travel. This is an immediate benefit you can use as soon as you get your Venture X Business card. The annual credit expires on the next account open date anniversary, so be sure to use it in time.
You’ll also receive 10,000 bonus miles every year on your account anniversary, starting on your first anniversary.
This gives you at least $400 worth of travel every year, which is $5 more than the card’s annual fee. Crazy, right?
Con: Large Spending Requirement for Welcome Bonus
It may seem daunting for some to spend the $20,000 required to earn the bonus. You’re given three months from account opening to complete the spending requirement, which means your business needs to charge on average $6,667 per month.
Some small businesses who are right on the edge of the spending requirement are able to push through the threshold by prepaying expenses. For example, paying a few months in advance for utility bills, insurance, or estimated taxes.
However, I’d caution against pushing too far above your means. You should never apply for a credit card if you can’t afford to pay off what you charge immediately.
Con: Annual Fee
The $395 annual fee for the Venture X Business might be hard to accept, especially for those that have mainly used cards with no annual fees.
Admittedly, I’ve probably become desensitized to annual fees. I pay thousands of dollars each year to hold cards like:
- American Express Centurion Card (aka the Black Card); $5,000 annual fee + $10,000 one-time joining fee
- AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard®: $99 annual fee
- Alaska Airlines Visa Signature®: $95 annual fee
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®; $550 annual fee
- Chase Ink Business Preferred®: $95 annual fee
For me, the key is to figure out what type of return can one receive for paying an annual fee. If the overall return is higher than the fee itself, that’s a signal to go ahead a apply for the card.
The Bottom Line
I just applied for this card and got approved. It’s a no-brainer to me. Besides the enticing sign-up bonus, the massive list of benefits are extremely valuable, especially for travelers.
It’s worth noting that I’ve had the personal Venture X credit card for a couple of years now. I initially opened it for the welcome bonus, but I’ve kept it in my credit card portfolio because the value I receive outweighs the $395 annual fee.
This Venture X Business card packs a punch above its weight class due to its large sign-up bonus, straightforward earnings structure, and slew of benefits. I recommend this to small business owners without any hesitation and the card will be added to my list of the best credit cards.
