The Bottom Line
I use Kraken, Gemini (Gemini Active Trader), and Binance US when I make large purchases of crypto because these platforms have the lowest trading fees out of all the crypto exchanges.
Kraken Pro (note that buys and sells on Kraken Pro do not count toward the $200 trading amount required for the bonus) charges only 0.26% to buy and 0.16% to sell which makes it one of the most inexpensive places to trade crypto – you can read more on this analysis at the bottom of the post.
Let’s say you buy $1,000 of Bitcoin every month. With Kraken Pro, you pay only 0.26% as a maker fee, which translates to just $2.60.
Compare that to an exchange like Coinbase where you’d pay 1.49% for a $1,000 BTC purchase, which is $14.90 – but that’s not all. Coinbase also charges a spread fee of 1% on crypto, making your actual trading costs total a whopping $24.90 to buy $1,000 BTC.

The spread fee is the difference between what the crypto costs and what you pay to buy it or receive for a sale.
If you buy crypto frequently, it’s smart to use an exchange with low trading fees. My strategy is to always buy using a low-cost platform and then transfer the crypto to a secure offline wallet like Ledger.

You don’t need to keep the BTC – there’s no holding requirement for the bonus. As long as you buy or sell $100 worth of crypto within 30 days, you’ll get the referral bonus.
