U.S. Bank Promotions FAQs

Are U.S. Bank promotions available nationwide?

Yes, however, some banking products may not be available if you live outside of the U.S. Bank footprint.

Bank accounts offered by U.S. Bank used to be state specific unless you were an existing customer. For instance, if you have a U.S. Bank credit card, you can login with your existing credentials and take part in the bank bonuses. This limitation was eliminated in early 2023.

Are sign-up bonuses taxed?

Bank account opening related bonuses are taxable and may be reported on IRS Form 1099-MISC. U.S. Bank will send you a 1099-MISC at the end of the year if you earned more than $600 in bonuses.

You’re still required to self-report and pay taxes even if you didn’t receive a 1099-MISC (or 1099-INT). Consult your tax advisor for further information.

On the other hand, credit card bonuses, whether cash or reward points, are typically not taxed because most credit card offers require a minimum spending amount to qualify for the bonus. The rewards are considered a rebate on the purchase rather than taxable income.

How do I get a U.S. Bank promo code?

You can find promo codes for U.S. bank on this page or by searching for other U.S. Bank promotions on this site. Any deals found here will automatically attached the relevant code for you.

While we list all publicly available offers, some deals may be targeted to specific customers and vary slightly from what you see here.

Do U.S. Bank offers expire?

Yes, most U.S. Bank promotions have expiration dates unless otherwise stated. Some offers may not have one and those will be marked with an expiration date of ‘N/A’.

Keep in mind that many national banks, including U.S. Bank, renew or extend some offers as the old ones expire. However, the bonus amount, requirements, and/or terms and conditions may be different.

How long does it take to receive my bonus from U.S. Bank?

U.S. Bank personal checking bonuses generally arrive within 60 days of completing the requirements, business banking bonuses within 45 days, and credit card offers can take up to 6 to 8 weeks (although customers have received bonuses earlier than that).

In my experience, U.S. Bank has been pretty good about sending rewards earlier in the stated time frames. If you haven’t received your bonus in the expected amount of time, contact U.S. Bank’s customer service at (800) US-BANKS (800-872-2657).

Can I take advantage of multiple U.S. Bank promotions?

Maybe. You can take part in multiple offers as long as each product is from a different product group. For example, you can receive a personal checking account bonus along with a business checking account bonus as those accounts are from separate product groups (personal checking vs business checking).

However, you won’t receive a personal checking account bonus if you have an existing U.S. Bank personal checking account or your previous one was closed less than two years ago.

When in doubt, read the fine print!

The Bottom Line

U.S. Bank offers some of the most generous bank account bonuses and credit card offers. That’s great for people who reside in one of the states that they operate in, but unfortunate for those who are outside of U.S. Bank’s geographic footprint.

I started my banking relationship with U.S. Bank many years ago (2014?) when they first launched the Club Carlson credit card. It had one of the best credit card benefit ever, giving you a bonus award night when you redeemed points for two or more consecutive award nights.

This means I could pay for one reward night and get the second one free, essentially doubling the value of my Club Carlson points. Once the travel blogs picked up on this perk though, it was terminated pretty quickly (and Club Carlson eventually rebranded to Radisson Rewards).

Now I have the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature card, which is a great credit card if you spend a lot at restaurants – not many cards offer 4x points for this spending category. My near-term plan is to open both a personal and business checking account to try out their banking products and grab the bonuses.

While you shouldn’t choose a bank based solely on a new customer bonus, it’s a great incentive to try the many banking and credit card products available. Interested in more bank bonuses? Check out the entire list of the best bank bonuses for more options to earn free money and rewards.

I’m a big fan of these bonuses and do them often. However, I’ve been reading so much lately about banks just up and closing peoples accounts without any notice or explanation. And one of the red flags for banks is that big sums of money come in, then go back out, and apparently, that’s a flag for money laundering and such. All these account closures being reported have scared me a bit over opening accounts all over, meeting the bonus requirements, then moving the money to another bank. What are your thoughts on this?
